Tempeh Burgers

Tempeh- fermented soy - is a vitamin rich source of food and our creation was inspired by the tempeh ruebens at the Organic Harvest Cafe in New York City. You will need a slice of tempeh available at health food stores (usually in the freezer!) Click below for the recipe. Recipe by Rob.

Preparation time: 10 minutes

Ingredients
1. One burger-sized slice tempeh
2. One slice vegan swiss cheese, or vegetarian swiss cheese
3. 1 Onion
4. 1 Portabello mushroom
5. 1-2 cloves garlic
6. Sweet soy sauce or any favourite marinade.

Method
Cut the onions into rings.
Put the marinade on each side of the tempeh.
Place mushrooms, onions and garlic into pan, and fry in a little oil for a minute. Move these to the side and put the slice of tempeh in the pan, fry all until nice and brown with vegetarian worcestershire sauce, tabasco sauce and/or soy sauce.

Serve between hamburger buns or toast. Add spinach if desired.

Yum!
