Kilburn High Road
Kilburn High Road is full of el cheapo discount shops, street stalls selling junk, Argos shoppers (hey, I've got the catalogue!), families with screaming kids and gridlock. Some people really hate it; to me it's a necessity when looking for staple goods and cheap household items, although I don't spend too much time loitering around it. The Sainsbury's is horrible though. You can't find any tofu there whatsoever! Here's a shop on the main drag selling grey market goods -- I have to say I've even bought a few things from here, namely the Dove Cream Bath (two pounds here, 3.49 at Waitrose).
They sell tofu at somerfield by Kilburn station (jubilee line). I haven't been to sainsburys for a while, but the last time I was there they had it.
I also heard of a shop down Dyne road that may have tofu, but I'm not sure.
Thought I'd post, because I never thought I'd catch the highroad in a blog!
I walk past this shop almost everyday.
Actually there is a good little wholefood shop down Willesden lane about 300 yards from the High Road. They sell tofu and other wierd stuff!
That "grey goods" stuff that you get in those cheapo shops all seems to be produced in Africa and China. Are they just counterfeit?

I'm closer to Peppercorn's on West End Lane than Willseden Lane, but if I'm up that way and devoid of tofu I'll be sure to check it out. I know there's a chemist there that also sells some of that organic stuff...
The best shop on Klburn High Road is FoodWorld, about hlaf down on the right hand side from Kilburn tube station. Spices are about 1/8 the price they are in Sainsbury's, rice is as cheap as anywhere in London and even the veg is dead cheap.
BTW, I thought that Kilburn High Road was voted the sixth worst street in the UK - can any one back this up? It is, after all, crowded, the tiny pavements are always full of rubbish and the only street I know where the banks close down and Pound shops open up in their place. Oh, and last Saturday there was a wino lying on one of the afore-mentioned tiny pavements, his head pouring with blood - and no-one stopped to call an ambulance. In fact, no-one took a blind bit of notice. The upmarket shop there is Primark. I hate it...apart from Foodworld.
Yes, I've been to Foodworld many times for spices! I don't think much of their "fresh" vegetables and fruit though - quite often they're decomposing quite happily! That aside, it is one of the best places on KHR for food. And apart from that place, I go to the downstairs of Pound Stretcher if I'm looking for bits and pieces like containers, bath and kitchen accessories etc. and way up near Kilburn tube I sometimes go to Angeles for a cheap vegetarian buffet or Casareccia for pizza. Hmmm... only the sixth worst street in the UK? I wonder who came 1st??

I love Kilburn, especially the high road. So many wonderful times, so many wonderful charaters.
Yes, hello Des. It is a little exciting, but then again it is a small world.
