Singing in Spitalfields

Just a quick mobile phone snap, taken near Spitalfields as I walked past a hairdresser's on the way back to Bishopsgate. They appeared to be singing karaoke!

Visitors
Didn't take any 'proper' London photos over the past fortnight, but I certainly saw half of the place! You can check out the pics I took when my friends here here on Flickr, below the pic of Tony.

Chicken Pox
No updates for a while, as I'm currently house-bound due to chickenpox. I've got friends visiting in less than a week, and then my parents are over for a short time, so I hope I get on the road to health soon.
Unfortunately I've got so much work to do that I have no choice but to do some work at home and I can't escape it altogether, but I'll make sure I rest if I get tired.
Not sure where/how I caught it, but if I hear anyone nearby ended up catching it then I'll blame them!

Big Dogs

This guy in Soho attracted a lot of attention. I wonder why...?

Old man Betsey

Old man at the Betsey Trotwood pub, Clerkenwell. I was meeting a bunch of friends here (about 6 or 7 others) and he sat at our table for four hours and wouldn't leave!

Happy New Year

"Self-portrait with 3D glasses" or "Doing silly things that I won't do as a rule in Photoshop".
Happy New Year to everyone. My resolution is to post more photos as I didn't put many on last year! Plus I haven't actually been in London much in the past month. As I said, I really need snow to kick it all off :)

The Olympic 2012 announcement: It's London!
A big event today: London has won the 2012 Olympic bid. Everyone thought Paris had won, as it was the favourite, and everyone here is quite cynical towards the whole concept of 'winning' anything. These photos aren't great (there is such a thing as a good vantage point), but here you are... viva London.

Worried faces in the crowd...

A few pensive faces as the announcement time nears (1246BST)...

Hooray! We've won!

The battle of Trafalgar... how ironic.

Hampstead Heath
There's a giant chair in and table in Hampstead Heath...

Some idiot tried to climb it...

Without success, it must be said :-)

From afar, it looks quite cool!

Circle Line Photographed
Rob has got a new project; taking large format pinhole photographs over the Circle Line Underground path. He will walk over the parts where the track twists and turns far underneath his feet (so it is not actually a Circle at all!) So far he's only walked between Moorgate and Barbican, but there has been a lot of interest (particularly from bloggers) everywhere. It'll probably take a few months or so, providing he perseveres with it every couple of weeks or so. A project to keep your eye on! :)

No Swimming sign, Hampstead Heath

During a sunny summer's day on Hampstead Heath, some elderly people sit for a chat and a read. See NYCLondon for more pinholes of HH.

Henri Cartier-Bresson Dies
Renowned Magnum and Life photographer Henri Cartier-Bresson has died aged almost 96, it was reported today. Cartier-Bresson is best known for his "decisive moment" photography. His many insightful images have inspired several generations of photographers today.

Ridley Road Market, Dalston, East London

A busy African grocery shop next to the huge selection of market stalls in Dalston. Walk up and down the footpath on the outside of the market, behind the stalls, and you'll find endless amounts of exotic foods, fresh fruits and vegetables, fabric shops and even a 24-hour bagel shop. It's always very busy! The market is open Monday to Saturday and is located just outside the Dalston Kingsland Silverlink station. Many buses travel through the area; catch them from Waterloo or Angel.
Housekeeping news: I've renamed all the files on this site (although old links to individual entries will still work) so that they are not numerical. Hopefully this will help drive more traffic here from search engines!

Camden Girls
![]()
Camden's always full of activity. These girls took pleasure in yelling at everyone who walked past, and tried to bum a few cigarettes off people.
