Number 13 Bus

Last week, two of the traditional Routemaster bus routes, including the beloved number 73, were discontinued. Anoraks (that's geeks with an obsession verging on Asperger's Syndrome) lined Oxford Street, snapping away, taking photos of the ancient hop-on-hop-off icons. There are still a few in service - such as the number 13, which terminates at Golders Green. I'm on my way to Finchley Road.
the last one
The number 12 (Dulwich Library to Notting Hill Gate) is still in service as well; its a lovely route if you've got time to spare, as the traffic is particularly bad going through Peckham and Camberwell.
Sad to see the old Routemasters retired; thanks very much for posting your photo and the link. Some of us anoraks appreciate it. ;)
Yes I felt a bit sick when I saw the double length bendy job on Oxford Street last week. I felt a real sense of loss.
Sitting here in Sydney Australia this November morning, reminiscing about the No 13 bus route (my favourite) and surfing the net, stumbled on your site. Shock horror! I must have blanked it out of my mind that they'd taken the beloved Routemasters away ... I could CRY! I have a lovely little bus story if that's what this site is about: one afternoon, a friend and I hopped on a Routemaster on Regent Street ... the bus conductor SHOWED US TO OUR SEATS ... and he was everso polite and friendly and was singing to himself (IN TUNE ... it was GOOD singing) ... he was SO good and helpful and polite, we looked at each other and then joked with him (and no offence to bus conductors here): "You're not a REAL bus conductor are you?" ... and at that, with a little flourish, he produced a business card (yes, a business card) from his wallet. ... It said "Anthony Severin, MBE" ... he was the bus conductor that famously got the people's choice MBE and went to Buckingham Palace on the bus to collect it! And I still have his card!
And thanks SO much for that picture of inside the bus!!! That was my favourite seat up on the No 13 ... particularly at Christmas when you could sit there and feel like you were ploughing through all the Christmas decorations hanging across the street!
